The Theatre Company Counting Ants comes from Madrid and is formed by two blind actresses and an extraordinary group of people. They staged Hildegard’s Visions a contemporanean theatre play about Hildegard von Bingen, a German abbess from the 12th century. She was physician, music composer, diplomatic and visionary. biografy of the director: Monika Rühle
Monika is currently making documenaries, creating video art and working in stage and costume design. Born in Stuttgart, Germany into a multicultural family with a German father and Spanish mother, Monika has an extensive professional career. After graduating from high school in Stuttgart she moved to Spain to successfully complete Fine Arts in Granada University and Barcelona University, where she specialized in Printmaking. Afterwards she continued her studies in Madrid. First, at the Royal School of Drama where she graduated in Stage Design; and later on, at the TAI School where she studied Graphic Design. She furthered her education in Video Edition and Postproduction at IMEFE School and in Documentary at HDM El Submarino in Madrid.
While working as a teacher at the ARCIS University
in Santiago de Chile during the years 1994 and 1995 she travelled extensively
around South America, especially visiting Chile, Argentina, Bolivia and Peru.
She has also created more than 60 exhibitions and
theatrical projects in Germany, France, Portugal, Sweden, Chile and Spain.
She constantly collaborates with a theatre group
called “Contando Hormigas” (Counting Ants), which, interesting enough, is made
up of visually impaired actors.
She also works with the cultural association “La Casa
Colorada” (The red house) making visible social and cultural proyects by
documentaries and video art.

AMBIT AND AWARDS
Monika has created several videos to be projected in theater
plays and musicals. Her videos have been shown at theaters, art galleries and
museums. Her video “mi barriga” (my belly) was shown in a TVE program in
Metropolis on "the body fluids" and they offered a special program
about her in Vallecas Telek.
Monika has received numerous awards in print-making,
installation, set design, characterization and design of theatrical costumes.

Synopsis
The Theatre Company Counting Ants comes from Madrid
and is formed by two blind actresses and an extraordinary group of people. They
staged Hildegard’s Visions a contemporanean theatre play about Hildegard von
Bingen, a German abbess from the 12th century. She was physician,
music composer, diplomatic and visionary.
With this documentary we enter in the private moments
of the group, the rehearselings, the preparation of the set. We know deeply all
the members and their desires. We see the whole process of creation of the
piece, the premiere and vibe with the applause and commentaries of the public.
